Our programme director, Iain Clunie took part in a panel discussion on Thursday at the Shaping the Science for Scotland’s Food Future – Food Summit, organised by The Rowett Institute and SEFARI (Scottish Environment, Food and Agriculture Research Institutes).   Discussing the topic of building a better food system for Scotland, Iain was joined by members of the Commitment’s external Advisory Group, Sir Ian Boyd, Prof Julie Fitzpatrick, and Prof Wendy Russell as well Heather Kelman(Food Standards Scotland) and Ruth Glassborow (Public Health Scotland).   It was great to discuss how through #collaboration Academia, Industry and Government help chart a course through the challenges currently faced by the Scotland Food & Drink sector. 🌱   #NetZero #Scottishfoodanddrink #foodanddrink

In response to Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)'s decision to allow companies to meet their Net Zero targets through carbon credits, Simon McKeating, programme manager at the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment, said:   “SBTi’s decision to allow companies to use carbon credits to offset their emissions sets a dangerous precedent. It could undermine SBTi’s credibility and encourage a new wave of carbon cowboys flogging carbon credits.   “The principle of setting targets – and not including carbon off-sets – to count as progress towards your targets has been enshrined in the SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard since it was first published in 2021 and should be protected.    “Real progress on emissions reduction can only be made by taking action in your own operations and along your value chain.    “We cannot simply buy our way out of climate change.” https://lnkd.in/dQhQk6yk #NetZero #ScotlandFoodandDrink #CarbonCredits #SBTI #CarbonOffsetting
