Many of the investments needed for mitigating future impacts of climate change, such as those in infrastructure and energy, will require long-term orientation as well as a financial system that is able to produce financial flows for remedial and preventive climate action. Save the Future is a multiplayer, Zoom-moderated, browser-based social simulation, set in 2 fictitious countries whose economies, environment, and business models are inspired by reality. Watch video about the Save the Future simulation https://lnkd.in/eXwu2Dn The simulation is designed to test the feasibility of using alternative currencies as a method for driving business toward a sustainable economy and long-term thinking. It was created as part of the Deep Demonstration of Long-Termism project, in collaboration with Climate-KIC, Culture Initiative, Dark Matter Labs, Edgeryders, ETH: Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, IOTA, Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC) – University of Turku, 2degrees Investing. The project is supported by EIT Climate-KIC, EIT is a body of the European Union. #savethefuture #socsim #socialsimulations Climate-KIC #innovation #climatechange #alternativecurrencies #currency

Water Stewardship has arrived in Vietnam! Our two-day workshop on how to bring collaborative approaches and integrated, systems thinking to support industry leadership for holistic, inclusive catchment management and governance was attended by a diverse group of engaged participants from across Vietnam. From speaker panels to the ‘nexus simulation’ to a full day of implementing water stewardship step-by-step, participants learned from each other and formed new partnerships to support water stewardship. #waterstewardship #watermanagement #systemsthinking with Water Stewardship Vietnam (WSVN) and Water Stewardship Asia Pacific team Megan McLeod Hanh Huynh Sandra Hall Fany Wedahuditama and Michael Spencer. Thanks to the Australian Water Partnership for all their support. Amazing to catch up with Hanh Nguyen too :)

Greta Thunberg told us to listen to the #science but Michael Gove said ‘we’ve had enough of #experts’. 🔬 Should #scientists do whatever it takes to stop #climatechange? 🎲 Our #simulation exposes you to the complexities of trust in expertise and is now available for free! Together with colleagues from ALLEA – The European Federation of Academies of Sciences and Humanities, King's College London, University College Dublin, Universitetet i Oslo from the #PERITIA project, we created the Climate #Science Crisis Simulation to raise awareness on this thorny but fundamental issue. With #Climate Science Crisis simulation participants experience that #trust in #experts is not a given. They assume roles with different worldviews and discuss policies and measures to address the damages caused by a rogue solar geoengineering experiment. Importantly, they also explore ways to prevent future crises of trust in #expertise. ✴ The simulation can be used for a capacity-building exercise or a university class. You can learn more about the simulation and download the materials at: https://lnkd.in/dRSkYGEW Special thanks to: Maria Baghramian, Catherine Holst, Kristie Hewlett, Daniel Thabang Kaiser, and Noam Obermeister.

In the piece for LSE Impact Blog, Noam Obermeister calls for ditching slides in science policy education and capacity building in favour of #SocialSimulations. Why? Noam illustrates his arguments using the Climate Science Crisis simulation (https://lnkd.in/g3mncYqv) designed for PERITIA. As he says, social and policy simulations we make are "just a drop in the ocean of possibilities and untapped potential of these methods for building science for policy competencies."
Drawing on his ethnographic study of government science advisers, Noam Obermeister argues that much of their work involves learning by doing and that by creating realistic social simulations this expertise can be developed in the classroom. #PolicyAdvice #Expertise #ResearchImpact

So happy to play "The World's Future" social simulation by Centre for Systems Solutions (CRS) and International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) again and in person at the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems. Thanks to our facilitators Laura Oberle and Ronja Baginski from University of Mannheim the master students are already deep into the mechanics of our current socio-ecological system as they struggle to define policies to keep their countries going and simultaneously have a positive impact on the #SDGs.
