Closing the innovation gap requires a paradigm shift 🔀 In a recent analysis by Alliance4Life, collaborating scientists Heidi Ann Erbsen and Toivo Maimets shed light on the persistent #innovation gap between old and new #EU member states. The study emphasizes the need to prioritize nurturing local research excellence over solely relying on talent imports from Western Europe. Erbsen points out the varying success rates of institutions in benefiting from EU Widening measures, highlighting the importance of national support. Maimets argues that rather than importing excellence, existing talent in the universities of the new member states should be cultivated to drive sustainable innovation. Taking place on January 17th at the renowned CSIC facilities, the event proved to be incredibly invigorating. 🔬 The workshop, titled "From Research to Industry: How Characterisation and Digitisation Change the Game", served as an exceptional platform for the exchange of knowledge and fostering collaboration. It was a privilege to participate in enriching discussions with fellow attendees and to showcase our remarkable ACCORDs Project, through a presentation from IDONIAL Centro Tecnológico. 💡 In emphasizing the significance of our project's visibility, we underscore the importance of ensuring that the scientific community, industry stakeholders, and other interested parties remain informed about our advancements, goals and future outcomes in graphene-based materials synthesis and characterization. Correlation in imaging techniques for such materials holds immense value, and integrating this knowledge into standards, guidelines, and an accessible intelligent platform is paramount. RESEARCH INSIGHTS ON »HOW CAN SCIENTISTS ASSESS THE IMPACT OF THEIR OPEN INNOVATION ACTIVITIES? »KTT Impact Canvas« for assessment of transfer activities taking crowdsourcing as an example« We are delighted to announce that Iliyana Madina, Malgorzata Thonagel, Anne Becker-Mironici and Emily Tapper from Crowd Innovation@Fraunhofer IMW with the support of Prof. Carolin Bock from Technische Universität Darmstadt are invited to present their research insights at this year's OIS Research Conference within the special OIS Use Case session. The conference is organized by LBG Open Innovation in Science Center and will take place on 21-23 May 2024 in #London. In their practical contribution, our colleagues address the growing need for methodology and recognized indicators for #impact assessment. The »KTT Impact Canvas« will be presented as an useful tool to help researchers plan, identify, and evaluate their impact. Furthermore, the Canvas will be used to develop a validated concept for impact assessment with relevant indicators for open innovation with #crowdsourcing as an example. Based on this concept, the impact of eight crowdsourcing challenges will be assessed in the next three years. The organization of the #challenges is a part of our BMBF project #CrowdInnovation. In future, the »KTT Impact Canvas« and the tested concept should also make it possible to record the impact of other transfer activities in the field of #openinnovation. The results can also contribute to strengthen the relevance, acceptance, and visibility of the impact of open innovation among researchers and in society.
