Delighted to announce the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University (WSA) 2023 prize-winners for the Diploma Professional Practice (DPP, the Part 3): Jac Doody, Pari Mistry-Patel and Jack Whitehead share the Stanley Cox prize, given by Stride Treglown, for best overall performance in the DPP. This is the first time the prize has been shared by three. Sarah Noble is awarded the Society of Construction Law prize for best performance in the DPP Construction Contracts module. Sarah’s construction contracts’ essay was on the benefits and risks of mediation becoming a mandatory step in resolving construction contract disputes in the UK. Many congratulations to all four! The WSA’s DPP course is run by Programme Leader, Professor Sarah Lupton, together with the WSA’s expert consultant, Manos Stellakis (Lupton Stellakis).   For the 23/24 session both the DPP and the Master of Design Administration (MDA) programmes are offered on a fully distance or blended learning basis, and with part time and full-time options. For all enquiries, including applying for the 2023/24 session, please contact Professor Sarah Lupton at Lupton@cardiff.ac.uk.

All the students that submitted in May 2023 have passed, and the following students are awarded the DPP with Distinction: Jac Doody, Sarah Noble, Parisha Mistry-Patel and Jack Whitehead. WSA: MDA prize winner: 2021-2022 I’m delighted to announce that Haya Magdy Mohamed Gad has been awarded the Society of Construction Law prize for the best overall performance in the Master of Design Administration (MDA) at the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University. Haya, who undertook the course on a distance-learning basis over one year, whilst living and working in Germany, also received a Distinction for the MDA. Her excellent dissertation was considered a particularly high standard by internal and external assessors - ‘Roadmap to Improvement: A Toolkit for Potential Improvement in the Energy Efficiency of Developing Countries’ Building Stock’ Other noteworthy dissertations by this year’s MDA graduates are: Meichen Wang – ‘Improving Supply Chain Management in the Context of Sustainable Development in China's Construction Industry’ Simon Ojula – ‘Disputes in Collaborative Construction Procurement: A comparison of Statutory Adjudication to other ADR methods’ The MDA equips graduates with the expertise necessary for the successful administration and management of the design process in the procurement of buildings. It is designed to be undertaken while in employment, and may be taken on a blended learning or 100% distance learning basis. Delighted to announce the Welsh School of Architecture 2022 prize winners for the Master of Design Administration (MDA) and the Diploma Professional Practice (DPP, the Part 3): The Stanley Cox prize, given by Stride Treglown, for best overall performance in the DPP, has been awarded to Helen Flynn who is also awarded the DPP with Distinction. The Society of Construction Law prize for best performance in the Construction Contracts module (common to the MDA and DPP), has been awarded to Haya Magdy Mohamed, one of the MDA candidates, who works in Germany. Haya’s essay was entitled: Risk Management: A Comparison of the JCT CE16 and NEC4 ECC. Aside from the prizes, the standard of the candidates has been high. Examiners commented on the ability of candidates to engage in professional conversation, how well the candidates were prepared for practice and how they imparted optimism for the future.
