#AvianInfluenza | 🆕 joint report with European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) on possible drivers to prevent virus evolving and adaptation to mammals.
#EFSA experts highlighted that farming susceptible animal species such as farmed fur animals, farming practices, extreme weather and climate change could also have an impact on the dynamics of infections. Susceptible wild mammals might act as bridge hosts between wild birds, domestic animals and humans, facilitating viral evolution.
Risk mitigation measures to reduce the risk of avian influenza viruses evolving include enhancing surveillance under a One Health approach. Strict biosecurity should always be in place at farms to limit exposure of domestic animals to the infection and its spread.
EFSA is working with European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) on a new scientific opinion assessing how a potential influenza pandemic might unfold.
