🐔 #AvianInfluenza | 📣 #EFSA has just published its advice on how to carry out surveillance in vaccinated areas and farms & possible risk mitigation measures. Scientific experts assessed whether the available surveillance strategies could demonstrate freedom from avian influenza thereby enabling the safe movement of poultry and related products. Frank Verdonck, head of the Biological Hazards and Animal Health & Welfare Unit, said: “Vaccination is an important tool in the fight against avian influenza and is recommended as part of an integrated disease control approach. Nonetheless, there is a need to follow up with a strategic surveillance scheme and implement measures to reduce the risk of virus transmission”. Read more ⤵️

The European Research Council announced the names of 255 outstanding research leaders in Europe set to be awarded ERC Advanced Grants. The funding is amongst the EU’s most prestigious and competitive, providing leading senior researchers with the opportunity to pursue ambitious, curiosity-driven projects that could lead to major scientific breakthroughs. #AvianInfluenza | 🆕 joint report with European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) on possible drivers to prevent virus evolving and adaptation to mammals. #EFSA experts highlighted that farming susceptible animal species such as farmed fur animals, farming practices, extreme weather and climate change could also have an impact on the dynamics of infections. Susceptible wild mammals might act as bridge hosts between wild birds, domestic animals and humans, facilitating viral evolution. Risk mitigation measures to reduce the risk of avian influenza viruses evolving include enhancing surveillance under a One Health approach. Strict biosecurity should always be in place at farms to limit exposure of domestic animals to the infection and its spread. EFSA is working with European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) on a new scientific opinion assessing how a potential influenza pandemic might unfold. Learn more ⤵️

The European Commission listened to the needs of applicants and beneficiaries and revamped the single landing page for #EU #funding with focus on client-centricity. The #Funding&TendersPortal EU Funding & Tenders Portal (europa.eu) offers now a more intuitive AI empowered interface, advanced search capabilities and personalized features tailored to the 2.5 million registered users’ needs. One of the policy fields is the #CERV Programme, promoting Union rights and values.
