How to Hack Interview Prep with ChatGPT

How to Hack Interview Prep with ChatGPT

Here's one of the most useful uses for ChatGpt that I've seen so far...

In a couple of simple steps, you can turn ChatGPT into a supercharged prep tool to help you craft high-quality responses to help you nail your next interview.

Using the STAR model as its foundation, ChatGPT can:

  • Ask you common interview questions on competencies relevant to the specific role you are interviewing for.
  • Ask follow-up questions to help you make your responses clearer, more concise, and relevant to the role and competency in question.
  • Rate your response on a 10-point scale and provide additional coaching suggestions for improvement.

By using ChatGPT as your interview coach, you can create a library of well-crafted responses to behavioral questions that you're likely to encounter in your interview. With this tool at your disposal, you can walk into your next interview with confidence and the assurance that you're ready to knock it out of the park.

To get started, go to https://chat.openai.com/chat and enter the following prompt:

Simulate a job interview for the role of [insert job title].
Context: I am applying for this job and you are the interviewer. You will ask me appropriate behavioural interview questions, one at a time. Only ask the following question once I have responded with an example that includes a situation or task, an action, and a result. The job has the following profile:
[paste the entire job profile here, including summary, requirements, skills, experiences etc.]

ChatGPT will that the role of an interviewer and ask your first question:

After you share your response, your AI interviewer may follow up with a question like:

Continue improving your response until you are satisfied, then write:

Rate my responses so far on a scale from 1-10 based on the extent to which they demonstrate the competency in question and align to the STAR format. Explain the rationale for your rating.

You will get a response that looks something like this:

Once you have received your feedback you can try the question again until you get a 10/10 score, or you can ask the interviewer to move on to the next question.

To be fully prepared, I recommend that you answer enough questions to cover the main competencies required for the role. You can then save your responses in an Excel sheet organized by company, role, and competency so that you can use them as a starting point for future interviews and tailor them as needed.

I hope you find this tool helpful, and I would love to hear how you've used ChatGPT to improve your interview skills. Let me know what improvements you would make, and how you plan to use this tool to land your dream job!
