Liverpool Immersive Experience Lab

LJMU’s LIVE Lab can help with your usability research

Based within LJMU’s Faculty of Engineering and Technology, LIVE Lab provides facilities for the development and delivery of commercial and research projects via cutting-edge mixed reality technologies.

Unique to the Liverpool City Region, Live Lab provides an environment for industry and academia to design and study user interaction within a testing facility designed for modularity and real-world observation. The facilities provide real-time datasets to further in-depth data analysis, to provide repeatable demonstrable insights into human behaviour which can in turn enhance the development of software and hardware projects.

Live Lab has been designed from the ground up to pioneer research led teaching. We provide opportunities for LJMU students who demonstrate requisite facility to learn in a space designed to integrate with industry and partner with North West SME’s to ensure students have a dedicated pathway to careers in academia and industry. Select industry partners can choose to integrate staff onsite. Inter-faculty integration of academic talent and industry partnership is integral to our practice.

Our capabilities

Behavioural analysis

Our Modular facilities are designed to track human behaviour, quantify it and enable that data to inform project decision making at a macro and micro level.

Physiological measurements

Our facilities are designed with ambulatory wireless physiological measurements in mind. We are pioneering a national first BCI (Brain Computer Interface) teaching course and can provide access to sensor equipment to industry partners. We also provide ambulatory ECG, EDA and motion capture data facilities.

Game Engine integration for Research and Architectural/Product Design

LiveLab operationalise a wealth of experience in Unreal Engine and Unity development to allow staff to offer bleeding edge support on custom development of 3D VR AR and Machine Learning solutions to partners who require a high level of customisation for dedicated solutions to complex research and industry challenges.

Mixed Reality Eye Tracking Research staff are on hand to provide support in integrating state of the art XR headsets with eye tracking software to add in this valuable datastream to pre-existing mixed reality projects and integrate it at an early design stage with future projects.

Further details on the specific technologies and bespoke software and hardware solutions are available on request.
