The first German Boxer infantry fighting vehicles (IFV), had been due to arrive in Lithuania in March, will arrive in late June, the Ministry of National Defense says.
"Boxers' serial production has been started and the first two Boxers are due to arrive in Lithuania in late June," Asta Galdikaitė, spokeswoman of the ministry, told BNS.
She did not provide the reason for the delay. The IFV versions meant for Lithuania have undergone testing over the past few months.
Their two prototypes were brought to Lithuania in November to take part in a parade to mark the Lithuanian military's 100th anniversary. They were then taken back to Germany for further trials.
Two Boxers were also brought to Lithuania for trainer drivers in late 2017 without the Israeli-made turret.
Once brought to Lithuania, the Boxers, the producer's given name, will be renamed Vilkai (wolves).
Signed in August of 2016, the contract on acquisition of 88 Boxers from Germany is estimated at 386 million euros. It’s the largest acquisition in the history of the Lithuanian military.
