About our fundraising groups
Our fantastic fundraising groups help raise vital funds for people living with a terminal illness and their families.
They play an important role by taking part in all our national fundraising campaigns such as the Great Daffodil Appeal, Blooming Great Tea Party and other yearly collections.
We also rely on them to help organise fundraising events and activities within their local community. Our groups act as ambassadors, helping to spread the word about the work of Marie Curie and encouraging and supporting local people, clubs and organisations to fundraise for us too.
All across the UK, groups of volunteers meet regularly to organise and support fundraising activities in their local community.

How does the money that groups raise help?
All the funds raised make a significant difference, helping to ensure that more terminally ill people receive the care they need at the end of their lives and are able to spend their final days in their place of choice.
- £130 pays for someone with a terminal illness to attend Day Therapy at a Marie Curie Hospice, benefitting from gentle exercise, an art class and more.
- £435 pays for someone with a terminal illness to stay in a Marie Curie Hospice for 24 hours, so they can receive the hands-on care they need in their final days.
- £4,460 will cover the cost of Marie Curie’s entire nursing service across the UK for one hour.
- £19,000 pays for a Marie Curie Nurse to care for people with terminal illness for a whole year.
How much do groups raise?
In total, our fundraising groups raise over £3 million a year. Once a group is fully established, on average they raise around £7,000 each year – but this varies a lot according to the size and location of the group.
What do the roles involve?

How much time does it take?
It depends on the time of year and the events your particular group are organising at any one time. Groups will often plan their activities around the commitments of their members. On average groups will meet once a month and tend to organise around six activities each year.
What support will I get?
You will be supported every step of the way by your local community fundraiser. They will meet you and the group and are always at the end of a phone. And you will have the support of your other group members, of course. We also have an array of fundraising goodies to help promote your group and its activities.
