Below is a list of learning/teaching communities this summer. These peer facilitated groups of faculty will engage in a collaborative exploration of selected topics related to enhancing hyflex and online teaching. Thank you to the colleagues who have volunteered to facilitate FLCs and FTCs. An FLC is a summer preparation group; an FTC is a group which intends to continue working together into the fall in an ongoing way of their choosing.
At this point, the initial sign up period has passed. If you are interested in joining an LC please reach out to Heiko Todt. It may be possible to add individuals to existing groups. If there is enough interest, we are also able to add a new cohort to start their work later in the summer.
Topics: To explore the literature of best practices in online learning (focus on building community and active engagement). To develop standardized (yet innovative) protocols for a series of instructional routines (e.g., break outs rooms, discussion boards, use of chat, etc.).
This will be an FTC
Meeting times: Tuesdays from 1-2 pm (Group 1), Tuesday from 3-4 pm (Group 2)

This will be an FLC and possibly an FTC later
Meeting times: not Mondays or Tuesdays; to be determined
Frequency: weekly
Current members: David Kinsey, Candice Smith Corby, Matthew Greene, Amra Brooks, Ana Popa, Gary Stanton
IT Liaison: JP Kitson
Topics: With the post-covid instructional formats, we are adapting and learning the tools and structure for developing and organizing content/assignments as well as for interactions among students, faculty, and content. This FLC offers us (1) the opportunity to develop our plans for our fall courses with feedback from colleagues and (2) learn about what tools might be best suited for you to support students in reaching your course’s learning objectives, as the online format also offers new avenues to consider for active learning and student engagement.
This will be an FLC, then maybe becoming an FTC.
