The Third Sector Framework is a fair, open and transparent way of distributing funding to VCSE organisations across Wakefield District.

More than £2 million has already been distributed in this way, so find out whether your organisation is eligible and start your application today!

What is the Third Sector Framework?

The Third Sector Framework is a fair, open and transparent way of allocating funding to locally rooted Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations in Wakefield District. The Framework was launched in January 2021 and is a partnership between Nova Wakefield District, Wakefield Council, Wakefield District Health and Care Partnership and Young Lives Consortium. One of the aims of the Framework is to achieve balanced distribution of funding across the district, and organisations of all sizes are invited to apply.

As the Third Sector Framework develops and membership grows, more funders are committing money and supporting this innovative approach.

The Third Sector Framework has recently welcomed its 100th member! To celebrate reaching this exciting milestone, we’ve put together a new video about the Framework.

Is my group or organisation eligible for Framework membership?

To be eligible for Framework membership, organisations need to:

  1. Operate in the VCSE sector
  2. Provide Health and Wellbeing services and activities in line with the four priorities set by the Wakefield Health and Wellbeing Board
  3. Be ‘locally-rooted’ in Wakefield District
  4. Be committed to sharing skills, expertise and best practice
  5. Be committed to safeguarding.

How do I apply to become a Framework member?

There are some brilliant funding opportunities going through the Framework and we wouldn't want you to miss out because you're not a Third Sector Framework member!

Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button to start your online Third Sector Framework membership application.

Please note! You will be asked to create an online account before you can begin to fill in the application form. This will enable you to save it as you go and complete it at a later date if you wish.

Download our step-by-step guide (below) to applying for the Framework online. This takes you through the process so you know what to expect.

If you need any support creating an account or completing the online application form, please email framework@nova-wd.org.uk or call 01924 367418.

Membership tiers

The Third Sector Framework operates a tiered system of membership, which means that organisations of all sizes can join and benefit from access to the same funding opportunities.

  • If your organisation’s turnover (gross annual income) is less than £25,000, you are eligible for Tier 3 membership of the Third Sector Framework. The application process is shorter as we ask you for less information.
  • If your organisation’s turnover (gross annual income) is £25,000 or more, you are eligible for Tier 1 or 2 of the Framework. Please read our FAQs below to find out more about the different tiers.

After you have completed your application, it will be reviewed by the Membership Panel and Third Sector Framework Board, who will decide the outcome of your application.
