Roland Levinsky Building
Combining forward-looking teaching spaces, exhibition areas and a cinema, our prestigious flagship Roland Levinsky Building sits at the heart of the city’s arts and cultural offer.
Situated at the southern end of our city-centre campus, it's also home to the The Arts Institute which combines cutting-edge research with a public arts programme, welcoming audiences of all ages and backgrounds to experience high quality exhibitions, talks, films, music and performances throughout the year.
There are also two campus cafes located inside Roland Levinsky; The Container Cafe offering fresh, handmade options on the ground floor, and RLB Cafe offering a Pan-Asian inspired menu on the first floor.
This building, designed for community as well as academic use, has had a significant impact on the subsequent transformation of the University and its role at the heart of the creative development of the city. Professor Levinsky was dedicated to the needs of the individual student and passionate that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential whatever their area of study.

Professor Roland Levinsky

The building is dedicated to the late Professor Roland Levinsky, the University's Vice-Chancellor from 2002 to 2007.
Professor Levinsky was an internationally renowned immunologist who performed the UK's first successful children’s bone-marrow transplant at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1979 and was one of the first UK scientists to obtain funding for gene therapy clinical trials for treating children with immunodeficiency conditions.
He was a great teacher and mentor who lectured internationally and co-authored many important research papers, as well as editing several books on immunodeficiency diseases. On appointment as Vice-Chancellor to the University, he began building a strong university centralised on a single site, enabling the arts and sciences to interact with each other.

The University is committed to discouraging the use of private cars, however, it continues to permit very limited car parking on campus for staff and visitors who hold a blue badge.

Only students with mobility impairment will normally be permitted to park on the Plymouth campus.

The University operates a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) enforcement system to assist in maintaining an orderly and safe parking facility on its campus. The enforcement system is managed and operated in partnership with First parking LLP and the security department at the University.

Alternative parking can be found in Drake Circus shopping mall and the Regent Street car park nearby. Charges apply.
