Aksel Sterri’s research interests are at the intersection of ethics and economics. The focus of his post-doctoral work (funded by the Norwegian Research Council) is on ethical aspects of contagion, both in relation to infectious and non-communicable diseases. The project builds on his Ph.D. thesis in philosophy, where he examines our duties to participants in delicate market transactions. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in the Oxford Handbook of Digital Ethics and journals such as Philosophical Studies, Journal of Medical Ethics, Journal of Applied Philosophy, and Developing World Bioethics.
Before starting his Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Oslo in 2017, Aksel undertook a BA and MA in political science and worked as an analyst in the Norwegian Labour Party, a columnist and opinion page editor in Norway's second-biggest newspaper, and an editor at an encyclopaedia. He has also written, co-written, or edited four books, on euthanasia, global citizenship, social democracy, and power. He has been a Fulbright grantee, Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellow, and received the Christian Sandsdalen-prize for his book on euthanasia. His work is available at https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Aksel-Sterri and Twitter handle is @AkselSterri.
