International Postgraduate Deanery

The International Postgraduate Deanery (IPD) exists to support International Medical Graduates (IMGs) in their UK training, as well as supporting NHS Trusts/Health Boards in training international doctors. The IPD will provide pastoral support and quality assurance of training, as well as sponsoring IMGs for GMC registration and supporting them with their visa applications.

The IPD training programme will replace existing IMGSS and RISFP programmes to improve and streamline current processes. The College has supported the training of IMGs for over 25 years through IMGSS and ODTS (Overseas Doctors' Training Scheme), with the RCSEd International Surgical Fellowship Programme introduced in 2015. The IPD’s new training programme will utilise the College experience and learning from each of these schemes in order to offer an efficient, modernised service for surgeons and NHS Trusts and Health Boards.

The IPD Training Programme

The IPD training programme allows (IMGs) to hone their skills under the supervision of NHS educational supervisors for 12-24 months, before returning to their country of residence where they can put their training in to practice. The College aims to develop the skills of individual doctors, improve global surgical practice, and increase the training reputation of NHS Trusts/Health Boards internationally.
