The Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading is offering scheduled online courses with support from internationally-renowned academic staff. 

This training is suitable for professional meteorologists, consultants, STEM students, graduates and academics seeking to improve their range of skills and knowledge. The courses may be suitable CPD for chartered meteorologists.

We welcome applications and inquiries from people in the UK and around the world. 

What to expect

  • Each week, new lecture notes with videos.
  • Weekly live online interactive sessions.
  • Exercises and assessments.
  • The opportunity to ask for help at live online sessions and on class discussion boards.
  • To study between four and eight hours per week.
  • Individual feedback on your work.
  • A certificate when you successfully complete the course.

The courses

Fees

  • The course fee for the first course that you take with us is £720 for international and UK learners.
  • There is a discounted fee of £650 for second or further courses taken with start dates within 18 months of the first course taken with us.
  • Royal Meteorological Society members pay the discounted fee of £650 for first and subsequent courses.
  • People from least developed countries, low income and lower middle income countries according to the OECD list pay a fee of £250.

Application

  • Anyone is welcome to apply for free. Look at the prerequisites before you apply. If in doubt please email onlinemetcourses@reading.ac.uk.
  • You should not enroll on more than one course per term.
  • There are no university credits associated with these courses.
  • In your application, carefully describe how your experience provides you with the prerequisites.
  • Apply by 9 September for the October to December courses.
  • Apply by 16 December for the January to March course.
  • Apply by 7 April for the April-May course.
