Seafarers globally have been recognised for their dedication and professionalism during the past 18 months during yesterday’s 32nd Seatrade Awards which took place for the first time in association with Lloyd’s List.

Traditionally awarded to an individual who has made a major contribution to the shipping industry, this year’s personality of the year award was in recognition of the many individuals that have gone far above and beyond what would be expected of them.

The Reverend Canon Andrew Wright, Secretary General, The Mission to Seafarers, accepted the award on behalf of global seafarers from Andrew Williams, President, Informa Markets Maritime, who said: “Our seafarers have suffered unpalatable lengths of service - in many cases working months beyond their contracted schedule - isolated from friends and family, at times in difficult conditions and all the while dedicating their time and energy to keep the world as we know it, alive and functioning.

“Whole economies, communities and livelihoods would have seriously struggled through this Global Pandemic without the dedication and professionalism of each and every seafarer.

So this year, it is our distinct pleasure and honour to recognize their sacrifice through this award.”

Regarded as the industry’s leading awards programme, Seatrade Awards has been championing the work of individuals and organisations for over three decades. During the online ceremony, 14 more outstanding winners joined maritime’s greatest roll of honour for their remarkable commitment to the industry and outstanding achievements over the last 18 months.
