Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of Montenegro Is Finalizing Gender Training Handbook

To achieve a non-discriminatory working environment with gender-sensitised members, education and training for the employees in the defence system on gender equality need to be standardised. To respond to this need, with the support of UNDP SEESAC, Gender Military Trainers from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Armed Forces of Montenegro  (AFs) initiated work on the development of the Handbook on Standardization of Training on Gender Perspective in MoD and AFs during the meeting held in Budva, Montenegro from 3 to 4 November 2021.

After the first draft was compiled, the second meeting was organised in Budva, from 16 to 17 June 2022, to consider the first draft of the Handbook and agree on further steps in its finalisation.

The Handbook is intended to help the Gender Military Trainers develop and implement standardised training programmes for different target groups within the MoD and AFs to improve the knowledge of all employees on gender equality in the defence sector.

Development of the Handbook comes at the right timing when the Network of Gender Military trainers from MoD and Montenegro AFs is expanded and strengthened with five new members who successfully completed the Regional Gender Training of Trainers Course.

This activity was organised within UNDP SEESAC’s second phase of the Strengthening of Regional Cooperation on Gender Mainstreaming in Security Sector Reform in the Western Balkans project which provides support for mainstreaming gender in the security sector reform, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.
