Limited place film screening of Everybody's Talking About Jamie: 6pm
To mark and celebrate the premiere of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and highlight the incredible achievements of South Yorkshire’s Cultural and Creative Industries, Sheffield City Region (SCR), Showroom Workstation and Sheffield Theatres will present the Cultural and Creative Industries Summit and inaugural South Yorkshire Cultural and Creative Industries Network.
Context
Coinciding with the red-carpet premiere of the film produced by Sheffield-based Warp Films, financed by 20th Century Fox, bought by streaming platform Amazon Prime, the Cultural and Creative Industries Summit will investigate the economic value of South Yorkshire’s creative, cultural, and wider arts industries, and its potential to become a thriving hub with a reputation for nurturing creativity and promoting economic growth.
Audience
Primarily focused on industry professionals working within South Yorkshire’s cultural and creative industries, the summit will also be of interest to politicians, policy makers, and business networks from Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield, keen to support this thriving industry.
Summit Speakers and Panel
To
begin, Host Auriel Majumdar, Creative Coach and Consultant, will introduce
Mayor of South Yorkshire, Dan Jarvis, to the summit. A champion of the
role that arts, culture and heritage will play in driving South Yorkshire’s
economic renewal post COVID, he will discuss how the South Yorkshire MCA will
support these sectors and the opportunities that the release of Everybody’s
Talking About Jamie can bring to the region.
We are delighted to also be welcoming keynote speaker, Creative England Chief
Executive Caroline Norbury MBE, who will outline the importance of making
creative and cultural industries a strategic priority, an industry which
generated £115.9bn in GVA and 3.5 million UK jobs prior to the pandemic.
Caroline Norbury will be joined by Chief Executive of Arts Council England, Dr
Darren Henley OBE, to discuss the wider value of culture in Covid recovery and
the levelling up opportunities for South Yorkshire’s cultural and creative
industries.
The two-part event will feature two panels of creative practitioners. The first
panel, facilitated by Ben Luxford, Head of UK Audiences at the British Film
Institute, will be a case study of the global success of Everybody’s Talking
About Jamie and will include Dan Bates of Sheffield Theatres, Mark Herbert
of Warp Films, Caroline Cooper Charles, Head of Creative at Screen Yorkshire
and CEO of Arts Council England, Dr Darren Henley OBE. The panel will discuss
its journey from subsidised, creative roots in South Yorkshire, to becoming a
global, commercial success.
Host Auriel Majumdar will chair the second panel, loosely titled
Capturing Art, Culture and Creativity: Unlocking South Yorkshire’s Potential
and will represent the wider cultural and creative landscape. The panel will
discuss the broader opportunities of the cultural and creative industries,
including creative skills and engagement, visitor economy and building a
reputation in the region.
Participants include Emma Holling of Pure Records, Emma Cooper of Cooperative
Innovations and Olivia Jones of Doncopolitan. Also joining are Deborah
Bullivant of Grimm & Co, Nathan Geering of Theatre Deli and Sue Thiedeman, Head
of Culture and Visitor Economy, Barnsley Council.
