Morriston gas explosion support

The council is working alongside its partners to support residents affected by the gas explosion in Morriston on Monday 13 March 2023.

We understand how difficult the situation is for residents who have had to leave their homes.

March 2024

We'd like to bring residents up to date about recent progress on dealing with the house which was destroyed in the gas explosion last year.

We'd like again to express our condolences to the family of Mr Davies and for all those affected by this tragedy at this difficult time. The Council will continue to support residents in any way we can.

As householders affected by the tragedy you will know, it is the sole responsibility of the household's insurers to make arrangements to deal with the property demolished in the explosion.

Over the last year, the Council has been in regular contact with the insurers, and we have now been informed by them that a schedule of works for the demolition and clearance of the site has now been arranged.  This is an important step and the insurers are still finalising their timescales for the work, which is also their sole responsibility.

The insurers know the council is on hand to provide any further advice or assistance as we are very keen to see the work completed in the interests of the whole community.

The perimeter fencing we have put around the site needs to remain in place until the insurers' work on the site is done.

Mental health and wellbeing support continues to be available for residents and those affected by the tragic events of last year. Drop-in sessions run independently by the Jac Lewis Foundation are available every Friday between 10.00am - 3.00pm at the Swansea.com stadium or you can call the foundation directly on 03301 336510 for support.

Support from our Building Control Team

All properties have been made safe and our building control team is on hand to provide advice and support to property owners affected by the incident. We've written to owners highlighting ways in which the team can help to make sure repairs to their homes meet building regulations standards.

Any affected resident is welcome to contact a member of the team for further advice and information:
