Cabbie killer Christopher Halliwell was ‘obsessed with Moors murderer Myra Hindley’ and becoming a serial killer

SICKO double killer cabbie Christopher Halliwell was obsessed with Moors murderer Myra Hindley, an ex-cell mate told The Sun last night.

The smirking murderer was fixated on becoming a serial killer and was addicted to books and magazines about Britain’s most evil criminals.

The warped taxi driver, 52, faces a whole life term in jail when he is sentenced on Friday for the murder of prostitute Becky Godden, 20, in Swindon, Wilts, in 2003.

He is already serving life for the murder of clubber Sian O’Callaghan, 22, who he picked up as she walked home drunk in 2011.

An inmate who served time with Halliwell at HMP Dartmoor in the 1980s last night revealed the twisted workings of his murderous mind.

Former East End villain Ernest Springer, 64, who was interviewed about Halliwell by Wiltshire cops, said he is convinced Halliwell has more victims.

Speaking from his home in the east of England, the ex-armed robber said: “I still say there are more than two bodies.

“I believe it because of the serial killer remarks he would always make.

“He used to ask me about killing. He said, ‘How many people do you need to kill before you become a serial killer?’

“He just had a thing about them. He wanted people to be proud of him or an area to be afraid of him.

“Don’t ask me why, but that's what he wanted to be. He used to get this magazine called True Detective with stories about people getting knocked off.

“His favourite book was about the Moors Murders with a picture of Myra Hindley on the front.

Springer, who was inside with Halliwell for four years - and worked side-by-side with him in the prison clothes exchange, said the sicko “hated women”.

He said: “Halliwell was a ****ing nut. He was a woman hater. He used to say, ‘You can’t trust women’.

“He would say that was the reason why he had no women visiting him."

He added: "Trust me, he will do hard time, especially as he looked at the family of the girl he killed and grinned at them in court.

"He is sick in the head.”

Springer’s claims come amid police fears Halliwell has left a string of other bodies hidden during the eight year gap between the two murders he has been convicted of.

Det Supt Sean Memory, who led the case against Halliwell, said he is in "no doubt" he was capable of other murders.

He said: “I’m definitely concerned. We know that Becky died in 2003 and Sian in 2011."

He added: “I do know that Halliwell was very forensically aware. When he killed Sian he removed items of her clothing, he tried to get rid of fibres and he tried to get rid of items from his car. I definitely can’t rule out he committed other offences.

“I appeal to him to say: ‘You’ve put two families through absolute hell. This is the time to come forward and if there are any other offences speak to me now’.”

Memory referred to an odd exchange he had with Halliwell when he interviewed him in February last year.

He added: “He tried to strike a deal with me that if he would clear up Becky’s murder that I would never interview him about anything ever again.

“Of course I couldn’t give him that guarantee in case there are other rapes or murders.

“It’s a strange deal to try to strike if there are no other victims. He wanted absolute immunity from prosecution for the rest of his life."

A police source said: "From his teens onwards, we are looking at a potential offending period of more than 30 years.

"We know he travelled all over the country working as a driver, or in the construction industry, and we are also looking at where he took his holidays on his narrow boat. He could have left victims anywhere in the UK."

Halliwell is believed to have used his taxi driver job as a cover to target girls outside clubs and in red light districts late at night.
