Sir James Dyson: I’ll take action on air pollution — even if PM won’t

When people talk about air pollution they are quick to cite China and its infamous urban smog. There is no doubt they have a problem, but it is one of the few places where understanding of the danger is high and the government takes it seriously.

Rather than discussing the weather over breakfast, people in China discuss PM2.5 and VOCs (volatile organic compounds). They feel a genuine urgency to solve the problem. Hundreds of entrepreneurial technology-led start-ups have sprung to life, developing electric vehicles capable of giving the Germans a run for their money.

We have a serious exhaust pollution problem here in Britain, and we should demand change from our leaders. That’s why I wholeheartedly back this newspaper’s manifesto to bring clean air, as
