A magnitude-3.8 earthquake jolted the Eureka area on Tuesday morning, according to a report from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor, which hit at 10:19 a.m., was centered southeast of Eureka in the Pine Hills area.

There were about a dozen self-reported responses to the quake within minutes, with people reporting feeling the quake from McKinleyville to Fortuna. Within 45 minutes, there were hundreds of reports of feeling the jolt, with the majority from the Eureka and Arcata areas.

The National Weather Service Eureka office reported feeling the earthquake on Twitter.

“We felt it here on Woodley Island,” NWS Eureka tweeted. “NO Tsunami threat from this earthquake.”
