Ending preventable newborn deaths and stillbirths by 2030
Moving faster towards high-quality universal health coverage in 2020–2025
Highlights
Substantial progress has been made in newborn health and survival and in preventing stillbirths over the past decade, including in countries with the highest burdens of newborn mortality. Ninety-three countries are implementing the recommendations from the Every Newborn Action Plan (ENAP) and monitoring their progress. These recommendations are successfully demonstrating that accelerating progress is feasible.
In this document, ENAP provides a roadmap to end preventable newborn mortality, reduce disability and end preventable stillbirths by 2030. To guide countries in reaching their 2030 targets, ENAP multi-partner initiative team, co-chaired by UNICEF and WHO, reviewed and updated coverage targets and milestones to guide progress between 2020 and 2025. The document also sets out new global, national, and subnational targets and key actions that can be taken in partnership to accelerate progress.
