Perfect for any Year 11s interested in becoming a nurse or one of the long list of careers a Health and Social Care course can take you!
Over the series of four Health and Social Care profession experience workshops, you will be able to put the 6 Cs of nursing into action: Competence, Compassion, Care, Communication, Courage and Commitment.
As a student at Weston College, you will have access to qualified and registered health professionals on your teaching team, a hospital standard simulation suite as well as our well-equipped science labs in our Health and Active Living Skills Centre.
What will each workshop involve?
All healthcare professionals need a good understanding of the body and how it works to provide competent care. This session will allow you to experience the lab in action as you investigate the structure and function of the lungs.
Providing person-centred care that is compassionate and caring requires excellent skills of communication. You will work on scenarios in our simulation suite that will explore the key points in providing this care to client groups such as the elderly or those with life-limiting conditions.
Acting quickly in an emergency requires courage and commitment to continual personal learning. In this session, you will be introduced to and practise first aid protocols and skills, including DR ABC, AMPLE, dressing wounds, slings, the recovery position and dealing with choking.
Nursing and other clinical staff keep wards safe and comfortable for patients in many ways. You will experience some of these in the simulation ward as you consider and practise infection control measures, PPE and other ward management activities with the life-like hi-tech manikins.
