It happened Tuesday as 14-year-old Gunnar Johansson got onto the bus to go to Hidden Oaks Middle School.
Surveillance video on the bus captured Delores Matheny yelling at the boy to take the hat off. Moments later she grabbed it off his head.
The blue hat had "Trump" written in big letters across the front with the words "Make American Great Again" written underneath in red letters.
Matheny told investigators she gently removed the hat from the boy's head. She later apologized when questioned by a Martin County deputy and told investigators she didn't realize it was "hat day" at school. She also admitted to overreacting.
Johansson's mother tells WPBF 25 News her son paid $1 to wear a hat to school as part of a fundraiser for the March of Dimes.
